CSUSM Falls to Cal State LA in Overtime, 83-73
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (6-8, 3-6 CCAA) battled through four quarters and overtime before dropping an 83-73 decision to Cal State LA (9-5, 5-3 CCAA) on Thursday evening at The Sports Center in San Marcos.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM struck first behind a Sydney Hani layup at 8:57 of the opening quarter to take a 2-0 lead and extended the margin to 6-3 on a Kaity Haan 3-pointer at the 7:10 mark.
- The Cougars closed the first quarter ahead 15-13 after holding Cal State LA to 29.4 percent shooting from the field.
- CSUSM opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run and built its largest lead of the half, 24-13, following a Kristan Yumul layup at 7:47.
- Cal State LA responded with steady scoring to cut into the lead, but Maddie Leiva's 3-pointer with 21 seconds remaining sent CSUSM into halftime holding a 34-30 advantage.
- The Cougars took the 34-30 lead into the halftime break after shooting 32.4% (11-of-34) from the field compared to Cal State LA's 32.3% (10-of-31).
- Cal State LA tied the game at 34-all at 9:09 of the third quarter and briefly pulled ahead before consecutive 3-pointers from Tatum Tamashiro helped CSUSM regain momentum.
- Leiva drained a three at the buzzer to end the third quarter, giving CSUSM a 55-52 lead heading into the final quarter.
- The Cougars pushed their lead to 64-57 on a Tamashiro layup with 6:21 remaining in the fourth before the Golden Eagles answered with a 10-0 run to go in front 67-64.
- Tamashiro's runner with 15 seconds left put CSUSM back on top, 68-67, but Cal State LA forced overtime after converting a free throw with two seconds remaining.
- In overtime, the Golden Eagles outscored CSUSM 15-5, closing the game on a late scoring surge to secure the road victory.
