CSUSM Falls 54-40 to CSUSB

SAN MARCOS, Calif.  – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (0-8, 0-3 CCAA) fell 54-40 to Cal State San Bernardino (2-5, 1-2 CCAA) on Saturday afternoon in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Cougars found themselves trailing 9-0 to the Coyotes in the opening four and half minutes before Bobadilla sunk both of her free throws to get CSUSM on the board.
  • Down 13-7 at the end of the first quarter, CSUSM opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run to cut CSUSB's lead to just one point.
  • A third-chance bucket by Kaitlyn Beall gave CSUSM its first lead of the game at 18-17 before a 3-pointer by Slover extended the lead to 21-17 at the 2:07 mark.
  • A Hetrick 3-pointer broke a 21-all tie with 16 seconds remaining in the half.
  • CSUSM took a 24-21 lead into the halftime break after shooting 34.0% (7-of-20) in the second quarter to CSUSB's 26.7% (4-of-15).
  • Nine blocked shots were recorded in the first half with CSUSM tallying five of them.
  • Hetrick led all scorers in the first half with 12 points.
  • CSUSM finally got a bucket in the third quarter at the 4:57 mark on a Rose Morse 3-pointer to even the score at 27-all.
  • The Coyotes closed out the third quarter with a 6-0 run to take a 33-27 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.
  • CSUSB outscored the Cougars 21-13 in the final 10 minutes.

 
FAST BREAKS

  • CSUSM concluded the game shooting 21.4% (15-of-70) from the field while CSUSB came in at 37.7% (23-of-61).
  • The Cougars had the edge in offensive rebounds (20-14), steals (10-3) and blocked shots (7-6) while the Coyotes had the advantage in rebounds (50-47) and assists (12-4).
  • Both teams finished with 16 turnovers as well as scoring 15 points off turnover opportunities.
  • Forty-two of the Coyotes points came in the paint while CSUSM finished with 18.
  • CSUSB scored 17 second-chance points to CSUSM's 12.
     

UP NEXT
CSUSM will conclude its non-conference schedule on Dec. 17 when the Cougars travel to Costa Mesa to face Vanguard at 7 p.m.
