Cougars Dominate Late to Secure 62-50 Win Over Point Loma
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (2-0) closed out the CCAA/PacWest Challenge with a 62-50 victory over Point Loma (0-2) on Saturday afternoon at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ruby Vlahov sparked Point Loma early with a layup and later a three-pointer during a 7-0 run that gave the Sea Lions their largest lead of the game at 9-2 in the first quarter.
- Point Loma led 11-10 after the opening period as CSUSM closed the gap with a 6-0 run.
- Kristan Yumul answered in the second quarter with back-to-back threes, including one at 9:19 and another at 5:43, helping CSUSM erase the deficit and tie the game at 18-18.
- Sophie Morales scored a key layup at 4:01 in the second quarter and added two free throws in the closing seconds of the half to keep CSUSM ahead 28-27 at the break after shooting 41.2% (7-of-17) compared to PLNU's 58.3% (7-of-12).
- Kate Bobadilla hit a clutch three-pointer at 5:46 in the third quarter to ignite a 7-0 Cougar run that pushed the lead to 36-32.
- The Cougars extended their lead to 43-36 by the end of the third quarter while holding Point Loma to just 23.5% shooting in the frame.
- In the fourth quarter, Tatum Tamashiro drilled a three at 9:38 and Kristan Yumul followed with another at 8:17, fueling a decisive 9-0 run that extended CSUSM's lead to double digits.
- CSUSM sealed the win with a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring PLNU 19-10 and finishing the game on a 9-0 run.

- CSUSM shot 35.5% (22-of-62) from the field and 28.6% (8-of-28) from beyond the arc, while Point Loma finished at 31.3% (20-of-64) and 21.7% (5-of-23).
- The Cougars went 90.9% (10-of-11) at the free-throw line compared to PLNU's 62.5% (5-of-8).
- CSUSM dominated bench scoring 24-2 and held a 16-6 edge in second-chance points.
- The Cougars won the rebounding battle 42-41 and forced 17 turnovers, converting them into 14 points.
