SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Kalathan Laiwa-McKay of Cal State San Marcos bested his own mark to earn this week's FloCollege/CCAA Field Athlete of the Week award.
Laiwa-McKay threw a distance of 17.74 meters in the shot put on Saturday at the RCC Invitational, breaking his own school record. He had posted the CSUSM record of 17.35 meters last May at the Franson Last Chance meet, a few days after winning his second consecutive CCAA title in the event.
The senior from Ukiah is currently at the top of the NCAA Division II performance list with the latest NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
This is Laiwa-McKay's second CCAA Athlete of the Week award. He first earned this honor just over a year ago on Feb. 26. Click here to see the complete list of CCAA Track & Field weekly award winners.
The Beach Opener is on the schedule next for the Cal State San Marcos Cougars at Long Beach State this weekend.
