Cougars Host Sports & Life Skills Clinic with CSUSM Tribal Engagement
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball and cheer teams hosted a Sports & Life Skills Clinic in collaboration with CSUSM Tribal Engagement on Tuesday.
"This event embodies what we stand for as a program – inclusion, care, commitment and creating opportunities to positively impact the lives of youth in our community and beyond," CSUSM Head Men's Basketball Coach Nick Booker said.
"The clinic aimed to build partnerships within campus and tribal communities," CSUSM Tribal Engagement Liaison Mejaumi Franco-Rosales said. "By bringing American Indian youth to a four-year institute, participants gained firsthand experience of what it takes to be a student-athlete, fostering a more positive future for everyone involved."
"The greatest gifts we can give are love and time, and this clinic is a testament to both," Booker said. "It's a chance to connect, inspire and nurture the next generation of American Indian youth. We're especially proud to see Christian Littlejohn-Chin embrace this moment as he explores and celebrates his Native American heritage. His passion and excitement reflect the heart of what this event is all about — growth, connection and community."
"Sports in tribal communities play a significant role in helping youth overcome challenges and serve as a valuable outlet," Franco-Rosales said. "This sports clinic was the first of many initiatives designed to create a positive pathway that supports our Native youth from tribal communities."
