Cougars Fall 8-4 in Series Opener at Stanislaus State
TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (25-16, 24-12 CCAA) opened its series at Stanislaus State (15-24-1, 11-20 CCAA) with an 8-4 loss on Friday night at Warrior Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third as Robert Valdivia scored on a Cougar fielding error.
- Stan State went up 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer to right by Flavio Perez.
- A two-run shot to left by Teunissen knotted the game at 2-all in the top of the sixth.
- The Warriors responded with a solo shot by Chris Catalano and a bases-clearing double by Ryan Leonesio to go up 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth.
- Stan State extended its lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to right by Jacob Baker and an RBI single to second by Leonesio.
- Mahaffy halved the Cougars' deficit in the top of the ninth with a one-out, two-run homer to left to make it 8-4, but a groundout and strikeout ended CSUSM's run.

- Stanislaus starter Austin Balentine (6-2) went the distance, throwing 9.0 innings with six strikeouts while allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk.
- CSUSM starter Roman Connolly (5-2) took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and four walks while striking out one in 6.0 innings.
- The loss decreases CSUSM's lead against Cal State Monterey Bay in the CCAA standings to a half-game.
- The Cougars will need to win their final three games against the Warriors and have Cal Poly Pomona take a loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills in order to clinch the CCAA Regular-Season Championship this weekend.
