Cougars Drop 68-50 Decision to No. 20 Central Washington

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (4-3) fell 68-50 in non-conference action to No. 20 Central Washington (8-1) on Tuesday afternoon at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• CSUSM scored first on a layup by Kaity Haan at 7:08 of the first quarter for a 2-0 lead.
• After a buzzer-beater by Kate Bobadilla to end the first quarter, the Cougars led 16-14 over the Wildcats.
• The opening 10 minutes had nine lead changes and three ties.
• The Wildcats went on a 9-3 run to open the second quarter, taking a 23-19 lead after a 3-pointer by Sierra Eddie at the 7:16 mark.
• CSUSM trailed 39-29 at halftime after shooting 37.0% (10-of-27) to CWU's 44.1% (15-of-34).
• Haan scored back-to-back layups midway through the third to bring CSUSM within 47-41 at 2:31.
• CWU's Asher Cai drilled a 3-pointer at 8:22 of the fourth and added two free throws at 9:01 to push CWU's lead to 54-43.
• CWU reached its largest lead at 1:42 of the fourth at 68-47 before Bobadilla answered with a late jumper.

QUICK HITS
• CSUSM shot 32.3% (20-of-62) from the field and 25.0% (5-of-20) from 3-point range, while CWU finished at 42.6% (26-of-61) and 34.8% (8-of-23) from deep.
• The Cougars converted 83.3% (5-of-6) at the free throw line and CWU went 72.7% (8-of-11).
• CWU outrebounded CSUSM 41-35 and led in second-chance points.
• The Wildcats had a slight edge in turnovers, 7-9 over CSUSM.
• Haan's 20 points marked her season high and team high.
• The all-time series between CSUSM and CWU is tied at 1-1 after the Cougars defeated the Wildcats, 86-74, in the opening game of the 2023 NCAA Division II West Regional.
