CSUSM Collects Third Consecutive Win at Stanislaus State, 69-52

TURLOCK, Calif.  – A strong third-quarter defensive performance propelled the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (3-14, 3-8 CCAA) to a 69-52 victory at Stanislaus State (4-14, 3-8 CCAA) for its third consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • CSUSM trailed 20-18 to the Warriors following the first quarter.
  • The Cougars sunk five 3-pointers in the second half to take a 43-35 lead into the break.
  • In the first half, CSUSM shot 48.5% (16-of-33) to Stan State's 40.6% (13-of-32) while outrebounding the Warriors, 22-17.
  • CSUSM's defense held Stan State scoreless from the field (0-12) the entire third quarter as the Warriors' only three points came from the free throw line.
  • The Cougars held a 53-38 lead entering the final 10 minutes of play.
  • A Tatum Tamashiro 3-pointer at 6:53 of the fourth quarter gave CSUSM its largest lead of the game at 60-39.

 
FAST BREAKS

  • CSUSM shot 42.4% (25-of-59) while holding the Warriors to 27.7% (18-of-65), the lowest an opponent has registered this season.  
  • The Cougars tallied 19 assists to Stan State's 10.
  • Stan State had a slight edge in rebounds against CSUSM, 45-43.
  • The Cougars matched its season high of 11 3-pointers set against Chico State (Jan. 16).  
  • Both teams tallied 22 points in the paint, 16 second-chance buckets and six fastbreak points.
  • The Cougars led for 27:23 of the game while Stan State was on top for only 7:57.
  • Rory Hetrick notched her second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
  • With the victory, the Cougars extended their win streak to seven against Stan State.
  • CSUSM leads the all-time series at 9-6 and evened the record at Fitzpatrick Arena to 4-4.
