Cougars Drop Both Ends of Doubleheader at CSUEB
HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (16-11, 15-7 CCAA) dropped both games of its doubleheader at Cal State East Bay (15-15, 7-11 CCAA) on Thursday at Pioneer Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning with a Matthew O'Mahony RBI single to left.
- East Bay extended its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the second with an RBI single by Jaylen Hodges through the left side before a solo shot by Brendan Bell to left center.
- The Cougars scored their first run in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly to left by Garrett Teunissen to score Castaneda, who got on with a leadoff walk.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Pioneers took a 7-1 lead on a sac fly to right by Luke Novitske, a two-run double by Alonzo Guijarro and an RBI single up the middle by Danelle Daniels.
- An RBI single down the left field line by Diaz and an RBI double by Sommay trimmed the Cougars' deficit to 7-3 in the top of the fifth.
- The Pioneers went up 10-3 with a three-run homer by O'Mahony in the bottom of the sixth.
- CSUEB plated five more runs in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single by O'Mahony, a pair of RBI singles by Quinn Ayres and Jaylen Hodges and a ball that hit Bell with the bases loaded to go up 15-3.
- Cedillo hit an RBI single to left in the bottom of the eighth for the Cougars' final run at 15-4.
- The Pioneers concluded the scoring bonanza in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI double to right center by Daniels.

- Pioneer starter Tanner Gabe (6-2) earned the win after striking out seven while allowing three runs on five hits, two walks and two hit-by-pitches in 7.0 innings.
- Cougar starter Roman Connolly (3-1) took the loss after allowing seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits and three walks while striking out two in 4.0 innings.
- Phoenix Sommay extended his reached-base streak to 21 games while improving his hitting streak to 17 games.

- CSUSM took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second with a two-run single to center by Chesterton.
- CSUEB cut CSUSM's lead in half as an RBI double to left center by Danelle Daniels made it a 2-1 game in the bottom of the fourth.
- A solo blast by Teunissen to left in the top of the fifth put CSUSM up 3-1.
- An RBI single to right by Luke Novitske put the Pioneers back within a run at 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth.
- East Bay took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with three RBI singles by Niko Mollat, Jaylen Hodges and Brenden Bell to take a 5-3 lead.
- Mollat wrapped up the scoring with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to give CSUEB a 7-3 advantage.

- East Bay reliever Dwyer Lewis (3-3) earned the win after striking out four while allowing just two hits and two hit-by-pitches in 4.1 innings.
- CSUSM reliever Nolan Long (2-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three in 1.2 innings.
- Phoenix Sommay extended his reached-base streak to 22 games while improving his hitting streak to 18 games.
