CSUSM Sweeps Series at Chico to End Regular Season
CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos (32-19, 20-12 CCAA) softball team ended its regular-season schedule by completing a series sweep at Chico State (13-29, 12-24 CCAA) after recording 5-4 and 6-1 victories on Saturday at Wildcat Softball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wildcats went up 1-0 in the second inning after Tayler Berens knocked out an RBI single up the middle.
- CSUSM quickly answered with a Waymire RBI double to right center to even the score at 1-1 in the top of the third.
- The Cougars went up 4-1 in the top of the fourth inning after a pair of RBI singles by Fleischman and Fink before a double steal had Fleischman stealing home.
- Chico State doubled its runs in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by Mia Santos.
- Donnelly knocked out an RBI double down the left line to raise CSUSM's lead to 5-2 in the top of the sixth.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Santos and Berens knocked out bases-loaded two-out singles to cut CSUSM's lead to 5-4 before relief pitcher Savannah Coyle ended the game with a strikeout.
QUICK HITS
- Cougar starter Daihla Fink (6-2) collected the win after 6.2 innings in the circle, allowing four runs (two earned) on 14 hits and two walks.
- Chico's Katelyn Oldwin (5-11) took the loss following 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks.
- CSUSM tallied a season-high five doubles in the contest.
- Donnelly's double raised her season total to 14, ranking second in the CCAA.
- The Cougars registered their 35th double play of the season and remain the NCAA Division II leader.
- Fleischman's three hits were her fourth in a game this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a 2-RBI single to right center by Arredondo.
- The Cougars tripled their lead in the sixth inning on an Albayati RBI single up the middle, a Prater's fielder's choice and a Kestler 2-RBI single through the right side that made it 6-1.
- The Wildcats prevented a shutout in the bottom of the seventh with a bases-loaded sac fly by Dunning before the game ended on a fielder's choice.
QUICK HITS
- CSUSM starter Jayline Sloss (15-8) tossed six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and walking three while striking out eight for the third consecutive outing.
- Chico starter Amelie Valdez (7-16) took the loss after giving up five runs on five hits and one walk.
- Waymire moved her run total for the season to a CCAA-leading 43, eight more than Sonoma State's Giana Hays who ranks second.
- Donnelly leads the team in multi-RBIs games, raising her total to 11.
UP NEXT
CSUSM will return home to host the CCAA Championships next week in San Marcos on May 1-4. The Cougars will be the No. 2 seed and will have a bye in the first round with their first game slated for 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 2.
