Haan, Simon Named CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Kaity Haan of women's basketball and Nate Simon of men's basketball have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for December 2025.
The CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
Haan led CSUSM with 17.6 points and 2.4 steals per game in December. The freshman from Boise, Idaho, shot 50.7% (37-of-73) from the field while going 41.7% (5-of-12) from beyond the arc and 92.9% (13-of-14) from the charity stripe. Haan scored a career-best 23 points enroute to her first double-double with 10 rebounds against Chico State. She scored double figures in all five games for the month, including two 20-plus point performances.
Simon scored 11.3 points per game while shooting 47.8% (11-of-23) from the field, 42.9% (6-of-14) and a team-best 94.4% (17-of-18) from the free throw line. The junior from Riverside scored double figures in two of the Cougars' four December games, including a season-best 19 points in CSUSM's win over Chico State to conclude the month. Simon was perfect from the charity stripe in three of four games, including going 6-of-6 in back-to-back games.
