Cougars Shut Out by Vulcans in Season Opener
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (0-1-0) dropped its 2025 season opener, falling 3-0 to Hawai'i Hilo (1-0-0) on Thursday afternoon at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Vulcans struck first just before halftime when Kanilau Tolentino-Perry scored in the 44th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
- Hawai'i Hilo doubled its advantage in the 56th minute behind a goal from Aidan Santos before Iago Perez Ferreiro capped the scoring in the 84th minute after a throw-in from Felix Drizinsky.
- CSUSM generated opportunities throughout the match, finishing with a 12-9 advantage in total shots and a 5-4 edge in shots on target. Efren Nunez Dominguez led the contest with three shots, while Brooklyn Baker led with two shots on goal.

- The Cougars forced Vulcans goalkeeper Paul Waschkau into five saves but could not break through. Tony Flores played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Cougars, making one save.
- Hawai'i Hilo held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks and narrowly edged possession at 52% to CSUSM's 48.
