Cougars Settle for Series Split with 7-3 Loss
SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos baseball team (13-14, 8-10 CCAA) had to settle for a series split against Cal Poly Pomona (10-23, 6-18 CCAA) after falling 7-3 in the series finale on Sunday at CSUSM Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CPP scored the game's first run in the top of the third on an RBI single to center by Julian Angulo.
- The Broncos struck for three runs in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly by Tyler Chaffee, an RBI triple to right center by Clay Porter and an RBI single to third by Johnny Pappas to go up 4-0.
- An RBI single by Chaffee and an RBI fielder's choice by Porter put CPP up 6-0 in the top of the sixth.
- CSUSM finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a pinch-hit RBI double to right by Evan Scalley to cut the deficit to 6-1.
- A sacrifice fly to center by Garrett Teunissen scored Marco Pirruccello to make it 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh.
- The Broncos gained a run back in the top of the ninth on an RBI single to left center by Marco Malerba, taking a 7-2 lead.
- The Cougars tried to get a rally started in the ninth after Tyler Weaver hit a pinch-hit RBI double off third base and down the left field line to make it 7-3. With the bases juiced and one out, CSUSM struck out and flied out to end the game.

- Bronco starter Tyler Reiter (1-6) earned the win after striking out four while allowing an earned run on five hits and three walks in 5.1 innings.
- Cougar starter Zach Coleman (1-4) took the loss after allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out three.
- This was the second consecutive series split between the Cougars and Broncos when playing in San Marcos.
