CSUSM Drops 72-48 Decision to SPU

SEATTLE – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team (0-3) fell 72-48 to Seattle Pacific (1-5) in the SPU Region Crossover on Friday night in Seattle at Royal Brougham Pavilion.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • SPU jumped out to an 8-0 lead before a Hetrick layup got CSUSM on the board at 6:53 of the first quarter.  
  • The Cougars went on their own run at 10-1 to close the gap to 13-12 to close out the opening quarter.
  • Only two Cougars scored in the first quarter with Hetrick contributing seven and Bobadilla recording five.
  • A Tatum Tamashiro jumper with 5:47 remaining in the second quarter evened the score at 22-all.
  • The first half ended with SPU holding a 32-25 lead despite CSUSM tallying a 45.8 field-goal percentage (11-of-24) to SPU's 43.8% (14-of-32).
  • The Falcons outrebounded the Cougars in the first half, 19-11.
  • SPU outscored CSUSM 22-10 in the third quarter to go up 54-35.
  • The Falcons took their largest lead of the game at the 2:01 mark in the fourth quarter on a Emila Bishop free throw that made it 72-46.
     

FAST BREAKS

  • CSUSM shot 35.2% (19-of-54) from the field to SPU's 52.5 (31-of-59).
  • The Cougars were outrebounded 36-26 in the contest.
  • The Falcons scored 48 of their points in the paint while CSUSM tallied 26.
  • SPU now holds a 3-2 lead in the all-time series against CSUSM.
